About Vithal Tukyacha in Hyderabad :
Vithal Tukayacha is a documentation of Sant Tukaram’s life. Sant Tukaram is the greatest Marathi poet of Bhakthi tradition. His life and teaching is a golden light in the modern world.
Tukaram during his lifetime suffered great calamities and put to strenuous woes of life. He lost his parents, his children and first wife during the famine of 1628.
In today’s scenario in our country, when farmers chose to embrace death, Tukaram and his path, his teachings became relevant. Bhakth Tukaram expresses his helplessness, anguish through his abhangs (poems). He wrote thousands of them. His abhangs provide a social, cultural and spiritual insight about the contemporary society. We are in the 21st Century. Unfortunately, in these 400 years things did not change for the poor. The poor is exploited till for his caste, social status and various other things even after 400 years and much talked about freedom earned after fighting hard foreign power. A poor farmer all over the country and his life is at risk all the while.
Sant Tukaram represents this farmer. He talks about his oneness with Vithal. He finds solace in Pandurang. There are many pilgrimages people take but one taken by Varkaris twice a year is unique. It is a process of cleansing one’s soul. They walk from their respective villages in group to Pandarpur. It’s a collective celebration of spirituality. These are mostly farmers taking this holy trip during off season which helps them to rejuvenate and start life afresh.
